Why is proper rigging so important?

An aircraft that is not rigged properly is more difficult to fly,
uses more fuel than necessary,

is slower than it should be due to increased drag,

Cessna Aircraft, besides improper rigging, have control cables under tension. With age and usage the control cables lose tension and low tension causes excessive control movement.
